Home to great writers and artists though perhaps fewbetter known than Benjamin Britten, composer and Peter Pears his life long partner and tenor who brought the now world renowned annual classical music festival at Snape Maltings to life. The Aldeburgh Festival is a firm date in every music lovers diary. Suffolk may well be the holiday destination for lovers of ancient churches and rare birdlife but I for one would say it is all the better for it. The crowds are welcome else where as one explores Orford Ness or Hollesley Marshes binoculars in one hand and a sketch book in the other - alone!
